Industry Updates
Is Automation at a tipping point?
According to a recent report by McKinsey & Company, the pace of change in the Industrial Automation market is accelerating as a result of technology disruptions and macrotrends, such as reshoring, a global skilled-labor shortage, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) efforts. An analysis by McKinsey suggests that the day is coming when software-defined manufacturing will turn shop floors into “smartphones with robotic arms”

Ultrasonic Welding System
For the last 30 years, Omnitech has been integrating Sonics & Materials welders into automated systems like this recent project.
This past year Omnitech rebuilt an automated ultrasonic welding machine developed by Omnitech in the 1990’s. The customer enjoyed over 30 years of production on the machine but recently decided it was time to have Omnitech refurbish, update, and improve the machine. Most of the components of the machine could be reused but the customer decided to replace the control system with a new Allen Bradley CompactLogix L33 PLC and a PanelView Plus 7 12" HMI, and upgrade the four (4) Sonics & Materials ultrasonic welding systems with newer Model 2096 welders and GXE 2200 controllers. In addition to upgrading some of the machine’s commercial parts and replacing the guarding doors and other hardware, the main structures of the machine were taken apart, sandblasted and repainted. The rebuilt machine looks brand new and will give the customer another 30+ years of trouble-free production.

What's So Cool About Manufacturing?!
Students from Kutztown Area Middle School participating in this year’s What’s So Cool About Manufacturing® contest visited Omnitech to interview Omnitech’s employees and learn more about the company. The videotaped interviews will be edited into a short video that will be part of a county-wide contest in early 2025.
What’s So Cool About Manufacturing®
Developed by Manufacturers Resource Center (MRC), the WSCM program is a contest that allows students to connect with local manufacturers, document their experiences, and present them in an educational and “cool” way. The contest was created to generate excitement that draws students towards manufacturing career paths, and CTC and STEM education. The contest is showcased on the What’s So Cool website https://www.whatssocool.org/ and shared nationally through the Manufacturing Institute and the Manufacturing Extension Partnership platforms. How cool!
